Joining the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program
Cameron joined our SEE Program with goals to build confidence, make new friends and establish a routine after leaving school. As part of his journey, he participated in the Skills, Training, Readiness, Independence, and Vocational Empowerment (STRIVE) program. This course designed to support young people in skill development through practical, hands-on learning. The STRIVE program helps learners gain the abilities needed to live independently, enrol in further training, or secure employment.
Through his involvement in the Workforce Australia – Transition to Work program at Status, Cameron was referred to the STRIVE program. Before joining, Cameron explored alternative learning options but found they were not the right learning style for him.
“Coming here has given me some purpose, something to do and look forward to”
Learning for Employment in STRIVE
During his time in STRIVE, he focused on skill development for employment, gaining practical support to become job ready. With guidance from his trainers, Cameron created a resume and cover letter. He also explored potential career pathways through a supported work trial, with additional help from his Link Worker at Status.
To provide additional support, the team referred Cameron to Geared for Success for interview clothing and linked him with BlueSky Mind Studio for mental health support, helping him build the confidence and tools to thrive both personally and professionally.
Turning Skill Development into Real-World Success
Through his time in the SEE program, Cameron achieved all his goals and more! On top of exploring career pathways, Cameron built friendships with others in his class. He boosted his confidence through group discussions, now feeling much more confident when talking to others. Cameron also appreciated the flexibility that comes with studying at Pivot Training.
“I like that it’s flexible, you can work on the units you want to work on, or do job hunting. It feels much more adult-focused. It’s only from 9:00am to 2:30pm, three days a week, so it gives you time to work part-time or build up volunteer hours.”
“Coming here has helped me build friendships and confidence. Everyone in class is really nice, they even notice when I’m not there! It’s been great making those connections.”
As a result of his training, Cameron has put his skills development into action! He has now started work as a Kitchen Hand at a local café! His next goal is saving for a car as he now prepares to get his P’s.
