Kasiah explores new career pathways through the Skills for Education and Employment Program

Kasiah smiles as she hugs her trainer Ellie while holding her Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways, marking her achievement in the Skills for Education and Employment Program (SEE program) and her progress in learning for employment whilst exploring Australian career pathways.

The Skills for Education and Employment Program opens new career pathways for Kasiah

Congratulations to Kasiah! She has just completed her FSK10219 Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways through the Skills for Education and Employment Program (SEE Program)! When she started the SEE Program, Kasiah was uncertain about navigating Australian career pathways. She knew she needed to focus on foundation skills development and learning for employment.

A Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways equips learners with a Nationally Recognised Qualification. It builds practical workplace skills, including effective communication and using digital technology. The course also strengthens routine reading, writing and maths for the workplace. Learners also develop simple strategies for future work-related learning. By completing this certificate through the SEE Program, Kasiah received full funding from the Australian Government.

Kasiah left school in Year 10 and knew her skill gaps in reading, writing and maths could be an obstacle for future work or study. Completing the Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways helps her to show future employers and educational institutions that she has the skills to succeed in the workplace or further learning. She also focused on improving her numeracy skills to build confidence around money and saving. These are skills she now feels ready to put into practice.

“I am happy I got better at maths, it was a big goal of mine from the start.

Planning future career pathways through skills development

Kasiah worked closely with her trainer Eli to explore potential career pathways. Possible career interests included becoming a Diesel Mechanic or a Primary School Teacher. Throughout training, Eli and Kasiah developed a plan to enrol in further education through Western Australia’s North Metro TAFE. They also explored how the SEE Program could provide the foundation skills development needed for entry.

Her trainer helped her overcome classroom anxiety and create a supportive, positive learning experience in the SEE Program. In Kasiah’s own words:

“[Eli has] helped me in many ways, I couldn’t be more grateful to have Eli as my trainer… I genuinely enjoyed coming in to class.

Kasiah can now confidently pursue her learning for employment and take the next steps toward career success.

The SEE Program – more than just work-ready skills

As Kasiah experienced, the SEE Program is about more than just work-ready training. Her trainer helped her overcome classroom anxiety and build confidence. This support equipped her to tackle future challenges with a positive mindset.

Through the program, she developed practical math skills. These skills help with workplace tasks and everyday money management, boosting her independence and self-assurance. The SEE Program also strengthened her digital literacy, communication skills, and ability to plan and organise tasks. These skills are essential for both work and further study.

With a Nationally Recognised Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways, Kasiah can now show her achievements to future employers and educational institutions. The Skills for Education and Employment Program supports learners in developing a wide range of skills. It prepares them not just for employment, but also for ongoing learning, personal development, and successful navigation of Australian career pathways.
