What is a USI?

A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a number assigned to you and your USI account. Your USI will help you track all of your nationally recognised training from Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) in Australia, including Pivot Training. It’s essential for all individuals undertaking nationally recognised training to have a USI, as it ensures that your training achievements are recorded accurately and can be accessed whenever needed. Your USI account can also be used to provide Government-authenticated records of your study for future employers, or if you are applying for for national recognition of units of competency already completed (Credit Transfer). A USI is free and is required if you are studying nationally recognised training in Australia.

How do I find my USI?

If you have undertaken any nationally recognised training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) since 2015 you may already have a USI. You can find your USI number on the USI website using linked information such as your email address, mobile number, personal details and security questions, or personal details and ID documents at the USI website.

How do I apply for a USI?

If you don’t already have a USI, applying for one is easy and fast, and you will be able to keep the same one for life. You will need to register on the Australian Government’s USI website usi.gov.au by providing your personal details, contact details, and proof of identity. A full list of identification options is available from usi.gov.au/students/identification.
