Entry Requirements

While there are no formal entry requirements for the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) you will need to:

  • Be able to safely perform manual handling and lifting
  • Obtain an applicable screening check prior to work placement
  • Provide evidence of a COVID-19 and Flu vaccination before training starts
  • Have access to a computer that meets the System Requirements for this course
  • Attend an information session to assess your suitability for the course
  • Undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills evaluation

While there are no formal entry requirements for the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) you will need to:

  • Be employed under a contract of training (12 months full time or part time equivalent)
  • An employer interested in facilitating your traineeship
  • Be able to safely perform manual handling and lifting
  • Have access to a computer that meets the System Requirements for this course
  • Undertake an upfront assessment of needs to determine any required supports

Delivery Information

This course has a variety of delivery models to suit individual needs. These include:

Option 1 – New entrants to the industry

This high impact, intensive course is designed for dedicated individuals seeking entry into the Individual Support industry in only 12 weeks, without compromising on quality. Skills and knowledge are developed via:

  • Tuesdays and Wednesdays weekly face-to-face classroom learning at Pivot Training Hindmarsh (weeks 1-8)
  • Thursdays and Fridays weekly practical workshops in our simulated environment in Somerton Park (weeks 1-8)
  • online study as required to maintain study schedule
  • assessment activity via role plays and scenarios
  • completion of workplace activities during 120 hours of work placement (undertaken on completion of all theory and practical activities, scheduled weeks 9-12)

Option 2 – Existing industry workers

This part time delivery option is designed for individuals currently working as a personal care or support worker, and consists of primarily online study supported by phone, email or video calls from industry trainers. Skills and knowledge are developed via:

  • regular virtual classes to support theory
  • attendance at relevant practical workshops
  • on-the-job visits in your workplace to support assessment activity
  • completion of work place activities
  • flexibility to undertake training around your work commitments

Option 3 – Independent School Students (unavailable to SA Government school students)

Training for school students can be undertaken over 12-18 months and will be scheduled in consultation with the students, parent/guardian and the VET Coordinator. Skills and knowledge are developed via:

  • online learning materials
  • virtual classes relating to learning materials
  • regular practical workshops, including school holiday intensive workshops in our simulated environment
  • role plays and scenarios
  • completion of work placement activities
  • regular progress reporting to VET coordinators
  • flexible delivery to work around school commitments

We will assist learners not already employed in industry to finding the necessary 120 hours of compulsory workplace application of skills to assess competency. Click here to find out more about our Placement Support.

Skills Lab location:

  • Pivot Training Somerton Park – 47 Oaklands Road, Somerton Park

Our friendly Trainers will support and guide Trainees through their learning and assessment requirements, and will visit a Trainee’s workplace for training and assessment activities and consultation.
