Build trade-ready numeracy skills

Delivered through The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program, Trade Maths is designed to teach you the numeracy skills, terminology and processes that are common in trade roles. These skills will give you the confidence and ability to pursue either a trade taster program or an apprenticeship pathway.

Many aspiring tradies know the hands-on skills but struggle with the numeracy required for electrical, plumbing, or civil apprenticeships. This program bridges that gap through practical learning that turns abstract calculations into real workplace tasks.

Delivered face-to-face over 6 weeks (or longer if required), the program combines hands-on measurement games, mock job cards, material estimation, trade terminology, tool identification, and group trade challenges.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this trade-focused numeracy skills course designed for?

This plumbing, civil construction and electrical math course is aimed at youth, school leavers, and job seekers who want to pursue trade apprenticeships in any of these industries, especially those who need to build math confidence before sitting entry tests.

How does this course help me get an apprenticeship?

The program builds practical trade numeracy skills through mock job cards, site set-outs, and trade terminology. This practical numeracy training prepares learners for a trade taster program, interviews, and apprenticeship opportunities.

What trade areas are covered in the training?

The course uses real world examples from electrotechnology (electrical symbols, Ohm’s wheel electrical calculations), plumbing (pipe runs, roof calculations), and civil construction (paving grids, site set-outs).

Is there a formal qualification or unit attached to this program?

Yes. Learners work towards achieving the nationally accredited unit FSKNUM015 Estimate, measure and calculate with routine metric measurements for work and receive a Statement of Attainment when successfully completed.

How is the course delivered and how long does it take?

The course is delivered face‑to‑face at our Mirrabooka and Adelaide locations, with additional sites potentially available upon request. The program typically runs over six weeks (or longer if required) and is designed to support learners preparing for apprenticeships and other youth trade pathway programs in SA and WA.
