Certificate III in Individual Support with the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program

This extended-delivery program will help you strengthen your Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills while progressing toward the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support. This program provides practical experience and prepares you for a career in aged care and disability support. Helping you build confidence and develop essential personal care abilities. You will also gain employability skills training to enhance workplace competence and professional capabilities.

Through the program, you will learn to provide care that promotes independence, wellbeing, and quality of life for older adults and people with disability. You will gain experience communicating effectively with diverse clients, working safely, legally, and ethically, and following proper infection control procedures. You will also learn to support people with disability to build skills, confidence, and social connections, as well as assist older people, including those living with dementia.

Students complete 120 hours of industry work placement, applying skills in real care environments. Graduates are prepared to work in aged care services, as a disability support worker, or in other care roles, delivering professional, person-centred support that meets industry standards.

Study Schedule

This course is delivered over 6 months, with classes running four days a week from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. To get the most out of the program, you will need:

  • Access to a computer, a reliable internet connection, and a valid email account
  • Commitment to attend four days of in-person classes each week
  • Participation in an information session, which includes a suitability assessment and a Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital (LLND) skills evaluation

This schedule ensures you have the time and support needed to build your skills in aged care, disability support, and personal care, while progressing successfully through the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support.

Entry Requirements

While there are no formal entry requirements for the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) you will need to:

  • Be able to safely perform manual handling and lifting
  • Obtain an applicable screening check prior to work placement
  • Provide evidence of a COVID-19 and Flu vaccination before training starts
  • Have access to a computer that meets the System Requirements for this course
  • Attend an information session to assess your suitability for the course
  • Undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills evaluation

To be eligible for access to a subsidised training place, learners meet the following criteria.

They must be:

  • An Australian citizen or New Zealand citizen or,
  • A permanent Australian resident or,
  • An eligible visa holder
  • Reside in South Australia

AND ARE:

  • Enrolled in Year 10, 11 or 12 and employed in a Training Contract that combines VET and school based curriculum including SACE

OR ARE:

  • Enrolled in Year 11, 12 or 13 and are 16 years of age or turning 16 years of age in the current year of that enrolment, and
  • Are undertaking SACE or equivalent and,
  • Have completed a preparatory VET pathway

  • Have access to a webcam, or alternate method to interact with your trainer via video calls or virtual classes where studying via distance

Delivery Information

This course has a variety of delivery models to suit individual needs. These include:

Option 1 – Existing industry workers

This part time delivery option is designed for individuals currently working as a personal care or support worker, and consists of primarily online study supported by phone, email or video calls from industry trainers. Skills and knowledge are developed via:

  • regular virtual classes to support theory
  • attendance at relevant practical workshops
  • on-the-job visits in your workplace to support assessment activity
  • completion of work place activities
  • flexibility to undertake training around your work commitments

Option 2 – Independent School Students (unavailable to SA Government school students)

Training for school students can be undertaken over 12-18 months and will be scheduled in consultation with the students, parent/guardian and the VET Coordinator. Skills and knowledge are developed via:

  • online learning materials
  • virtual classes relating to learning materials
  • regular practical workshops, including school holiday intensive workshops in our simulated environment
  • role plays and scenarios
  • completion of work placement activities
  • regular progress reporting to VET coordinators
  • flexible delivery to work around school commitments

Option 3 – Skills for Education and Employment Program (SEE)

This full time (24 hours per week) delivery option is designed for individuals eligible for the SEE program who are interested in working as a personal care or support worker. Training consists of 4 days face to face training at our Adelaide CBD and Somerton Park site.

Course Outcome

On successful completion, you will receive the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability and Ageing), or a Statement of Attainment for partial completion.
